137th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

If you are a dog person, then you know that yesterday and today are very special events in the United States dog world.  The 137^th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is taking place as we speak.  This is the Olympics of dog breeding with dogs recognized by the American Kennel Club.  The American Kennel Club recognizes 175 breeds of dog.  Two new breeds were added this year.  The Russell Terrier and the Treeing Walker Coonhound.

Last night were the judging for four groups; Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting, and Herding.  Here are the results.

The Hound Group included the following breeds:

HOUND

I have to put my plug in here for the American Eskimo Dog.  They are such a beautiful breed and have never won their group or even placed in the top four.  The Breed Winner for the American Eskimo Dog was GCH Nuuktok’s Atika Inukshuk.  Isn’t he gorgeous??

The winner for each group will face off for Best in Show.  The judge for the Best in Show is kept secluded until the big event.  He will not know which breeds he will be judging until he walks into the ring.  This year’s Best in Show judge is Michael Dougherty of Escondido, CA.  Click here to read about his qualifications.
