137th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show


If you are a dog person, then you know that yesterday and today are very special events in the United States dog world.  The 137th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is taking place as we speak.  This is the Olympics of dog breeding with dogs recognized by the American Kennel Club.  The American Kennel Club recognizes 175 breeds of dog.  Two new breeds were added this year.  The Russell Terrier and the Treeing Walker Coonhound.

Last night were the judging for four groups; Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting, and Herding.  Here are the results.

The Hound Group included the following breeds:

HOUND


 
And the winner of the Hound Group was CH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box, an American Foxhound.  Isn’t she a beauty?  Click here to see who placed in the top four.

 



The Toy Group included the following breeds:

And the winner of the Toy Group was GCH Banana Joe V Tani Kazari, an Affenpinscher. What a handsome boy!!  Click here to see who placed in the top four.

 



The Non-Sporting Group included the following breeds:

NON-SPORTING


 
And the winner of the Non-Sporting Group was GCH Vogelflight’s Honor To Pillowtalk, a Bichons Frises.  He is a beauty.  Click here to see who placed in the top four.

I have to put my plug in here for the American Eskimo Dog.  They are such a beautiful breed and have never won their group or even placed in the top four.  The Breed Winner for the American Eskimo Dog was GCH Nuuktok’s Atika Inukshuk.  Isn’t he gorgeous??

The Herding Group includes the following breeds:

And the winner of the Herding Group was Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect, and Old English Sheepdog.  He sure is a fluffy young man.  Click here to see who placed in the top four.





Tonight’s show will feature the Sporting Group, Working Group, Terrier Group, and Best In Show.

The Sporting Group includes the following breeds:

The winner for each group will face off for Best in Show.  The judge for the Best in Show is kept secluded until the big event.  He will not know which breeds he will be judging until he walks into the ring.  This year’s Best in Show judge is Michael Dougherty of Escondido, CA.  Click here to read about his qualifications.
